“Re-examine all that you have been told...
dismiss that which insults your soul.”

- Walt Whitman

Many of the adults and children I help feel different and alone. Your shame and hopelessness may tell you there's something wrong with you and you'll never feel okay, or that there’s nowhere for you to fit in the world. Through psychoanalytic therapy, trauma-focused ‘parts work,’ and, for children, play therapy, I can help. We can look at your story and the unconscious messages beneath it to see what's at the root of your suffering and find ways for you to feel connected and good about who you are. We can help your child reconnect to their strengths and develop new ways to solve problems and express their needs.

It takes courage to enter therapy, and I’m honored that you or your family have chosen to begin your journey with me. Your unconscious is a powerful thing, and it has a story to tell. We can figure out together how to listen.

Now offering sessions in person or by video. Telehealth available throughout CA and in Washington D.C.

Please note that I only see children under 10 in person and prefer to meet with all child and teen patients in person when possible.

Who I am and what I do

My work is influenced by my background in the arts, my work with children, and my advanced studies in psychoanalytic therapy and in trauma and dissociation-informed treatment.

Who do I help?

I help a lot of different kinds of people, but I’m particularly interested in the developmental challenges of childhood, especially when that development has been interrupted by trauma, and I particularly enjoy working with very young children (1.5-5 yrs). Also, because the struggles of people who find themselves outside of the mainstream - particularly artists and individuals who have suffered severe trauma - often go unaddressed, I am especially interested in helping these unique individuals. And I merge these interests in my love for the work with children and teens who experience dissociation or DID, whose creative adaptability and capacity to learn and heal from devastating harm is beautiful.

How therapy works

Psychoanalytic therapy is an evidence-based therapy that has been shown to have the longest-lasting effects of any therapy - actually showing continuing improvement even after therapy is over! It's based on the idea that your pain is more than just what you're consciously aware of. It's got deep roots inside - often pretty knotted roots that need some serious untangling!

"Men are not free when they are doing just what they like….
Men are only free when they are doing what the deepest self likes,
and there is getting down to the deepest self! It takes some diving."
-D.H. Lawrence
